| I don't really listen to any internet radio or any of that but I make an exception for the JBS. It's always quality. |

| This is quite long so I will give you a brief overview of what was discussed:
Main topics:
Megumi Fujii: How she really is and how Japanese mma is perceived by the female athletes themselves and the promotions. Also, discusses a bit of the role of females in Japanese society to bring across certain points. The sherdog reporter is Japanese correspondent Tony Loiseleur and he is doing his master thesis at University on Megumi Fujii. Very interesting to listen to him speak about this in detail.
Shinya Aoki: From the beginning. How he is a walking contradiction. Also discusses how he is as a person and what his true ambitions are and also the fact that he is a victim of the promotional Japanese politics that come with the territory. Again, a lot of interesting points are brought up.
Japanese mma in general and its future: How Japanese mma is viewed more as entertainment as opposed to sport. The model coming from pro-wrestling etc. Also discusses about well known mma athletes (no names mentioned) also being victims of Japanese mma politics and often not being able to come Stateside because of it. Also goes into a past article the Mr Loiseleur wrote for sherdog in regards to AACC (Abe Ani Combat Club) and how the young ones (Japanese) perceive mma, UFC and the benefits of mma or martial arts in general.
There is so much content discussed in this interview that any fan of Japanese mma should check out. Lots of little tidbits on stuff and if you can read between the lines, you will come away with some conclusions about how things are really like out there. Tony was also the reporter that did a video on me on sherdog entitled: Foreigner fighting in Japan.
He is one of the people that watched me very closely while I lived there. He witnessed everything that happened to me there (Lots of behind the scenes BS) Also, before I forget, he also discussed how mma journalism is vastly different there then in the west. Tony has gone through a lot himself down there and the backlash he has had for releasing information. Lots of things covered up down there. Of course he can't discuss all of this stuff, but trust me, his livelihood has been threatened on more then one occasion. |

| It was really interesting to hear what he said about Aoki. And the point that japanese fighters are almost like employees to the organization is very interesting, I know they get salaries (something I dont think foreign fighters get).
Also how kids are trained in Japan. It is the only place I have seen 3-4 year olds training proper martial arts, but I also think its is done in a very healthy way. I really loved that side in Japan. _________________ Sig bet record 1-1 (1NC) |

Nah, it's run of the mill zuffa zombiism. If Jordan Breen is so critical, why does he never criticize zuffa? I suppose the bankrupt fertittas and their ufwwe events are completely harmless to the quality of competition.
Point by point reaction to your summary, which I will trust as accurate:
1. I have no knowledge of Fujii.
2. Somehow, Aoki is a victim of promotional politics and BJ Penn isn't? Why is it that only Japanese promoters can be ill-intentioned at sherdog.com?
3. US MMA is viewed as Entertainment as well! Ever heard of the UFWWE? Do sherdog bloggers look at their own forums? The sort of people on there are rarely sports fans; they know more about hulk hogan's wardrobe than MMA. Plus, ufwwe events are a mixture of first-blood contests and toughman striking. Why doesn't jordan breen ever notice this?
4. It is difficult to leave any promotion. Do you think it's easy for a winner to get out of a zuffa contract? Anderson Silva wanted to fight Roy Jones;he'll have to wait---didn't you notice?
This whole argument seems to be presupposed by a desire for Japanese fighters to sign with zuffa. Hence they want their careers to end. Or maybe, if Randy Couture breaks their necks while filing TUF, they want them to return to Japan to have neck surgery---lord knows zuffa aint paying up for medical bills.
5. More than ever before, Japanese fighters have the opportunity to fight on both strikeforce and dream events. Is this even mentioned?
6. The final point is a total joke, if we go on contrasting "Japanese MMA" with the west. Bloggers are literally paid-off by zuffa in the states. They are happy to be pr people instead of reporters because maybe they'll get a few free tickets. They never write critical things about zuffa. Look at what happened to loretta hunt when she said something remotely critical? Do you guys have any memory at all?
Didn't you ever notice that there is no such thing as a blooger in North America that criticizes zuffa. Labour rights don't matter, and when there's a contract dispute, zuffa is always right. You never noticed?
There are two media people critical of zuffa in the US---Eddie Goldman and Bob Carson. Both of them are extensively qualified to write for any of the major English MMA blog sites. Neither do. That's because no criticism of zuffa is allowed on these big blogs. You think the fertittas, knowing their family history, don't threaten livelihoods. Wake up for god's sake.
I am ashamed to have read this post. You guys are acting like zuffa gave you free tickets not to notice how harmful they are. Except they didn't. Eddie Goldman said it best: "MMA's fans are the dumbest sports fans in America." Apparently even the world. |

| I was a longtime sherdog fan, its how I got clued into the world of combat sports. In saying this I have to say the place has gone to shit over the last three years or so. I cant even tune into the radio show anymore, the guys seem even more pretentious than when Josh gross was walking around their parking lot (Big josh gross fan btw.) On top of that they have moved too far into UFC coverage, though I understand why. The rest of the "MMA" sites just follow what is popular, I cant say they are paid off, but they are definitely scared to cross the ufc, not that they would need a reason to.
...
I'm going to listen later, I hope. |
