| Josh Barnett was awarded his BJJ black belt earlier. | Quote: | Without having trained in a gi — or even formal BJJ training — Josh Barnett was promoted to a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt on Saturday by his longtime coach Erik Paulson.
Paulson, a Rigan Machado black belt, awarded Barnett the belt based on competition merit and overall knowledge. Barnett trains and teaches at Paulson’s CSW Training Center in Fullerton, California.
This past November Barnett, technically a white belt in BJJ, entered in the ultra-heavyweight division of the black belt category and won the gold medal at the No-Gi World Championships |

| Good stuff.
I still think he would tool mir, and I'll argue with anyone about it. |

| I'm sure this will piss off a lot of the BJJ folk. Josh may piss me off, but I still enjoy watching him fight and grapple. |

There is always the question of using BJJ vs. wrestling though. (not really Barnett related)
I am training with a guy that is an Olympic level wrestler (European champion), and he of course he tools me (and everyone I train with) on the ground. Using wrestling. Should he be promoted in BJJ?
Posting it, since it is something I think a lot of BJJ instructors are facing.
Again, I have no doubt Barnett deserves the belt though._________________ Sig bet record 1-1 (1NC) |
